If you don't let your birds free-range then you can buy Triazicide and spray the heck out of your yard, it takes care of a lot of my ant issues. When you can find it, there is also granulated poison specific for fire ants IF you know where the mound is.
I keep my chickens in a pen so I don't worry about them getting in the spray (though there are pesticides that aren't harmful to pets once set....but may not kill fire ants). Otherwise, anything that is foolish enough to fly/crawl into the cage usually gets ate by my hens and they seem to view them as a tasty treat - even the bothersome yellow jackets.
If wasps are really a bother near your coop, Tractor Supply Co. sells a Fly/Wasp trap that I use and it works pretty well.
