Most of my bird buyers (about 75%) are not native English speakers. We manage to communicate, and as you said, they usually have a good idea of how to care for them and what they're getting into.
Could be. But I had mentioned that I wanted them to go to non-meat homes in the ad, and in my previous interactions with him he sounded fluent in English, plus there are not a lot of immigrants or nonwhite people in Northern Maine which is where he said he lived. I have no idea what his name was or what he looked like from his email. My impression of him was more of some crazy backwoods (probably bigoted, based off of the slurs) mainer who just wanted to get a couple of free roosters to eat or do something weird to. I would definitely understand that possibly hitting a nerve for someone who faces that kind of stereotyping a lot, though. I agree that the younger hippies tend to be more irresponsible. When I was starting out I made the mistake of selling a couple chicks to a hippie-ish woman where I live and within a week they were dead because she was so irresponsible. I felt terrible and definitely learned my lesson to vet people first.
That kinda stuff happens lol. I was texting back and forth with a Quail customer, and my husbands cousin texted me, I replied to the wrong text with “you better bring chocolate chip cookies, or I’m not letting you in until you have them!”
