Black Acres: The chickens that saved me

Pics
I've got one Easter Egger pullet who has always been a lot smaller than the rest of the flock. She's also feisty and never gets picked on.

This is such a wonderful thread! 🥰
I’m considering moving the bantys back in with the bigs now that they’ve grown. They can see each other through the run door that separates them and they will bunch up there and “talk” to each other for hours. If you look close, you can see the bigs on the other side of the door.

That would also allow me to have a nice sized grow out pen for the Spring. I haven’t decided for sure though.

Hi gang. Yeah, I was not getting notified either but then saw a post about how to find the threads you follow 🤔 brilliant.
Upper left you have the 3 horizontal bars. Click open, click forums, click watched. Easiest way to hunt your threads down.

So, feeling pretty bad for you folks with frozen water. Think I feel much worse than you do because you guys seem in pretty good spirits. Must be all that youth 😉
So I am sending warmth your way.View attachment 2950626View attachment 2950631View attachment 2950634View attachment 2950648View attachment 2950655View attachment 2950656
My idea of perfect temps are 65-85. We are just about there now. Don't like the hot but not built for cold. Pretty sure my flock thinks those are perfect Temps too!
I love your photos 🥰

Tuff cookies! I lived in Peyton Colo where the wind blew. Absolutely stunning but cold as heck.

Good idea and you don't have to jump on it just yet. You will know by spring but good to have space and a plan. Chickens and chicken math always seem to fowl the best laid ones but that is part of the fun ♡

I spent a short time living in Colorado Springs. I love to visit, but won’t move back! I suppose I’m a creature of habit and will likely spend the rest of my life in good ol’ Kansas.

I think on the days it’s nice enough for me to sit outside with them, I’ll prop the door open so they can visit and then separate them back out when I go back inside. That way I can supervise and see how things are going and not just spring it on them all at once. I’ll need to add some roosting bars to the main coop if I decide to mix them together. I probably didn’t need to separate them in the first place because they’d grown up together from day one. I just got nervous when the bigs were three times the size as the littles and panicked so I separated them. They literally stand at that door daily and talk to each other so I don’t think re-integration would be hard, but I’d still prefer to do it supervised and slowly.

Consider me part of your weird club 😆 I also love Winter and cooler temps. I don’t love when it’s so cold it hurts. I hate the heat. Ideally, I’d live somewhere the temps never went below 30F and never above 75F.
Hot hazy and humid

That's my ideal! The horses don't like it and the chickies Find it rough, but I like it hot!

You have a beautiful flock and setup!
Thanks, it works for my warm climate, I love seeing what others in other climates do. Better than HGTV ♡
K. Sorry to post photos again your thread but... 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ young 4.5 mo pullets snooping around a nest box may be the most beautiful news and photos. Like, handsome roos#1, snooping pullets #2, first egg #3 cool photos.
I can almost hear them whistling.

ALWAYS feel free to discuss your own flock and post pics here. I love seeing the similarities and differences in climates and flocks!
