black australorp - cockerel or pullet?

Yes it is a single comb. It started turning red just around a week ago. Her feathers are black with a green tint and shine. The green tint and shine is on her back. The thing is she crowed twice today. At least it sounded like a crow. And the weird thing is that she never crowed before. All of her feathers are black. And the feathers on her back have a green tint.

Roosters get sharply pointed hackle (lower neck) and saddle feathers (in front of tail) that are usually evident by 4 months, although they can be difficult to see in solid colored birds. Yours could be a slowly maturing male. Iridescent feathers can occur in both pullets and cockerels, so are not a good indicator of sex.

It is uncommon, but not unheard of, for a pullet to crow, usually when there is no rooster in the flock.
(But a cockerel will never lay an egg!

whats the chances of it growing up into a male? if not already one.

i also have two other birds that couldve been crowing. but right now my australorp(if it is one) is the most noisy o i suspect it is the one crowing. i also have what seems to be a RIR and buff chocin that im 90 percent sure are female. i will post pictures of the upon requesst only after i find out what sex and breed my australorp(if it is) is.

Well, without those saddle and hackle feathers, I still think a pullet is more likely, but wait a bit longer to be certain.

Hopefully you will get some more opinions.

Well my australorp has been noisy since around 16 weeks of age. She was REALLY noisy. Her comb was not quite as big as yours, but it was noticeably red and larger than the others. Seems their combs get there faster than others. I can't say she was crowing though. Its just more like lots of loud bgok sound, and often. Not the cock-a-doodle-do sound. You probably have a pullet if she was just making bgok. Could be nearing point of lay?

i have a pic of my astraloups in my avatar on my profile it is of my silkie but my astraloups are in the back of the silkie ... my have a green tint when they are in the sun yours looks like a roo to me my roo has a bigger and red'er comb then mine ... and my pullets have a smaller comb and it is a blacky white right now i will get a pic of my roo and one of my pullets tomorrow if you want

So there is no confirmed gender? I'm getting female and male. Are there any experts out there?
