Black Australorps vs Black Jersey Giants (pictures posted please help)

I guess that's good then. Maybe the other 40 layers won't bother them too badly when I have to integrate in a few months.

I am really excited about them. I heard they are beautiful and good large egg layers.

Black Australorps are KNOWN for their green sheen. Black Giants are known for size. A hatchery Jersey Giant could be the size of an Australorp. BUT Australorps from hatcheries tend to have more sheen than Jersey Giants.

I'm just assuming these are hatchery birds so I went by hatchery guidelines.

The first bird has more green sheen whereas the second bird has less of a sheen. Both are higher quality than what I'd expect out of a hatchery stock, but you get the gist of it. (#1 is an Australorp, #2 is a Jersey Giant.)

Well I went and got them
Their feet were so dirty and it was dark by the time I got there it was really hard to tell...
Only the cracks of their feet were clean and they were white...
IDK Ill go rinse them tomorrow and see

Either way Sarah...BOTH breeds are awesome to have around. Australorps are sweet and hilarious to watch. They also lay MUCH better than Jersey Giants.

The only thing about these 2 new hens is they FREAK out. I get near them and they are a squalkin and a flappin.
I noticed the people that I got them from just yank them by their tails. Im hope with some TLC they will come around..

Yeah...some people who don't know better, grab the tails to "slow" them down. This can tear out the feathers and cause stress.

With some TLC, they SHOULD calm down...it'll take a bit of it...but should still calm down a bit. PLUS, pullets are almost ALWAYS flightier than aged hens.

These new hens are farrrrrrreaks lol
They are so scared of everything!
