Thanks Raven :)

Today is hatching day for the solid black babies. I have 7 out so far. Only one has clean shanks so far (both parents had feathered grr) The rest all look to have good leg feathering but they are still in the bator so can't get a really good look yet. I hope a whole bunch more hatch today. I also have some golden cuckoos, cuckoos, bcm, blcm, a few OE's and some English chocolate orp eggs that my son got me for Mother's Day (looks like 5 of them hatched out of the 6 on the chocolates) :D

Blue/slate colored legs is what they should be.

Thanks I thought that was right it is a few weeks old but they are not dark enough I did not think well back to trying to find a pure breed one. Could I also ask another question I hatched some eggs that were supposed to be Marans the eggs were the really dark brown and all of the others who hatched seem right but one looks like a rumpless chicken she has slate legs and the feathering down the outside but she does not have a tail and no copper coloring at all she is about 12 weeks old has anyone ever heard of this. Should i just not use her to breed I am trying to get my flock up to standard. Any thoughts on this would be great Thank you

No that is not quite right.....the blue and black will be slate and could be various shades of it. The splash birds are different.... their legs will look more white to blueish. The blue gene will dilute the leg color too.

Splash birds are pure breeds and will breed ture. They sre usually not an apa color variety. Some breeds they are accepted but not most.
