it is really humid here so hard to get it really low. I don't add any water in the summer and use stuff to absorb moisture andbcant get it under 40%. in the winter it hovers at 30%. the lower the better. I will add water if it reads LOW....but that is it.
With no water right now the humidity is 20% I am trying to get the temp and humidity right before the eggs arrive, the temp is between 99.5 and 100 degrees. I have had a lower hatch rate with the Marans eggs than with lighter colored shells, all are shipped eggs. I hope I can finally get enough to hatch my own. Thanks for the advice

everything will change when you put eggs in DONT PANIC. leave it ALONE FOR 48 HOURS. It should stabilize when the eggs get up to temp.

Thanks by down low are you talking 20% to 25% are lower. I will be using a Styrofoam incubator with a fan.
I used one of those when I was first hatching. It was a Little GIant I think. It had a automatic turner and I rigged up a computer fan in the top. I filled it up once when I first set the eggs. Then added water about once a week throughout the incubation period. Then on lockdown I had some aquarium tubing and large syringes set up to fill the water reservoir from the outside and also I had two sponges that were rigged with aquarium tubing as well. I still use them for hatchers some times. The are actually very reliable if you keep them on an interior wall of the house away from drafts (heating /cooling vents etc). The tricky thing with those incubators is the stupid temperature knob. Barely turn it and wait awhile before turning it again. They are very touchy. I also have a digital thermometer with a temperature prob I drop down into it about egg level. There are these little round temp and humidity gauges that you can get a Petco or online that happen to fit right into the egg turner holes. Remember to calibrate your hygrometer the night before you lock down your eggs for the hatch.
Here is some photos of how I set it up those little styrofoam bators. I don't use the water jar anymore (that was kinda a experiment) but the rest of it should apply.

Hi all, I have a hard decision to make and need some help. I can only keep one rooster and I have 1 blue and 1 black marans roosters. Which one should I keep?

since you have blue and splash pullets keep the black. you will get all blue from your splash and half blue and half black from the blue pullet. if you keep the blue roo you will only get blue and splash chicks.

Still trying to decide which of my blue males to keep. They're 8 weeks old now and are starting to fight and mount the females :O

First one has a ton of copper, has a little feathering on his legs

Second one is darkest and biggest, but has no feathering on legs

Third one I like because of his massive feathering on legs. Very little copper on him though.

I am looking for someone with blue and splash eggs for sale, I am located in VA. I have a splash girl, and I had a black marans rooster, but he turned out to be super aggressive. I have two kids under the age of 5 and I just couldn't keep him with that aggression. If someone has some eggs that are hatchery please let me know. Thanks !!

Are you looking for solid color birds or coppered birds? I have Blue Copper birds that would give you Blue or Splashed Copper chicks.
