Black, Blue and Splash (BBS) Marans discussion thread

Pics
I had a black, blue and splash hatch eight weeks ago. The top one looks just like my splash one did, almost silvery on top. I see wing feathering already, and they are definitely not blue. The lower one is a blue, though they can be lighter than that. It looks like your blue may be a dark one.

How feathered are the legs on your splash?
The top one who I thought was a splash is silvery. sadly she has clean legs. All my others have feathered legs. I am not breeding so I am not worried. I have another blue that is 10 days old and a black that is 10 days old. The Blue is lighter in color than this one. and the black is very black. ( the parents are Blue Copper ) These kido's are for my egg production coop and there will be no Rooster in with them. SO I hope none of these little ones are roosters.

I've got 3 doz blue maran eggs in the 'bator that will hatch july 5th. Two different sources, bluewater in tx and Wynette in mi.
I've also got a second 'bator that has 1 doz black marans eggs from bluewater in tx.
I'm also getting another 7 black marans eggs from bigshawn that was here on this forum.
I have prayers going heavenward for a good hatch with all these eggs.

I will have eggs for sale next year from both blue and black marans.

Hi, everyone. I got an assortment of marans hatching eggs this spring and only two hatched. One was this big dark roo that seems to be between a black and a blue. He's lightening up some, especially on his breast. The other is an F1 olive egger. The big roo (Randy) was from a lighter brown egg. Do you think this is a blue?

Hi, With the male not having any shank feathering and looks to have green legs, would say he might not be a pure Marans.

Must be the pic, but he doesn't have green legs, just dark, like slate. I know all marans don't have shank feathering either. Not that he couldn't be mixed, because you never know what you're going to hatch when you buy eggs. He is a very large rooster and he's only 3.5 months old.

Fairly new to marans so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. I bought 4 solid black Marans (3 hens and a rooster) 4 years ago. Of course the rooster got eaten by a fox. This year I decided to start with maran again and bought 8 chickens from a sorta local lady. Now I have a splash rooster (all she dad) and a bunch of blue and black hens. They have toe and leg feathering, but their skin is black, not the slate I was expecting from my other hens. Does this mean anything? Thanks!
