Black, Blue and Splash (BBS) Marans discussion thread

haha! Okay pictures below. I guess that's what I get for buying hatching eggs from an unproven source...off eBay! I just wanted something dark for my broody to hatch and wasn't carrying about lineage or breed SOP. That will teach me. Looks like they might be Copper Splashes and who knows what else. They were advertised as 3 Blue Splash Maran eggs for hatching from Silverfire08 on eBay. Here's the 25 week old rooster, Rusty. And his hatchmate, Bunny, pullet here are her 1st and 2nd pullet size eggs.

I love this girl! She laid another dark one today like the one on the right and it was bigger by about 1/4". It is almost as big as my LavOrp egg and they have been laying for six months. Is there a thread for blue copper splashes? I couldn't find one when I searched.

Raven~ I candled this morning!!!!!!!! I removed 3, 2 had detached air cells and the other was clear. The other 5 are truckin' right along with good veining and good air cells. Today is day 6. They are set to hatch the 21st-22nd. I say the 2 days of hatching because I set them later in the day vs. early in the mornings like I usually do.
I'm very excited!

bobbieschicks, thanks for posting your mixed marans pictures. I also have blue copper splash chicks and was interested to see your more developed rooster and the pullet eggs.
Also, thanks to Hens and Roos for the blue copper link. The BYC search doesn't always get me where I want to go.
By the way, does anyone know a good way to locate BYC breeders in California?
At one time I noticed "Mike's Marans" in SoCal on BYC, but don't know my way around well enough to find him again, short of a general internet search.

5 little eggies went into lockdown this morning! All of them still have wonky large air cells that are not where they should be, but the chicks inside are still doing great! Wiggly little stinkers!

Nice pics of your Blue Marans. I notice that a couple of them have one or two white tipped feathers peeking out from the tips of their wings. We have a blue female hatched Christmas Day and she has two white feathers like that. Does that coloring stay as they grow up? (we love it).
