Hello!
I am reaching out to the community to help me solve a mystery. Recently, my neighbor incubated some eggs, some of which I provided to her from my flock, including my EEs. In the craziness of the hatch, it was difficult to tell which came from my EEs, but all the chicks that came from my hens were black (or primarily black)! I thought, well, maybe none of the EE eggs hatched from my girls, but she has an EE, too, and some tuquoise eggs definitely made it through. My cocks are white (Cochin bantam) and gold (silkie bantam), and hers was a lavender breed, I believe Orpington.
Recently, my BCM became broody and sat on four eggs, three of which belonged to my EEs. Three have hatched and they are ALL black (with some white from their dad, the Cochin). Two out of three of them are ABSOLUTELY from my EEs. Why are they coming out black? My cocks aren’t even black!
