Anybody know why I would get BLACK chicks from an Easter Egger/Lavender Orpington cross!?

I know Easter Eggers, especially hatchery EEs, are not exactly reliable or predictable when it comes to genetics, but I was expecting red or at least blue or laced or something because of the parent’s colors but so far both have ended up black??? Except for two little white spots on the wings.

My Leghorn crosses ended up essentially looking exactly like little Leghorns which I had expected because I read WLs are usually dominant white? And that chicks will end up mostly white. Plus I know Lavender is a recessive trait. But I was not expecting black chicks 😂🤣

Not that I care at all, they’re very cute, it’s just fascinating to me.

I have pictures of the chicks and parents that I will post and see what you all think. Maybe they are just very very dark blue???? But they look black to me so
Dad may be lavender but that's just diluted black, and black is a dominant color.

Nah it wasn’t on purpose! It just never came up 😂🤣🙈 I was open on some other threads. My brother and SIL actually tried to talk me out of it too but she was already sitting.
Bull💩 You didn't tell me on purpose. Coonass...witchy powers...remember?

I saw the title "Black Chicks" and it harkened me back to my high school days...all the black chicks in school had a crush on me.

It was funny, a tall skinny yet muscular and strikingly handsome white kid had the black chicks eating out of his hand!

Years later at one of the high school reunions I saw a particular group of black chicks that always enjoyed my company. As my wife and I approached them they all giggled and rushed up to hug me. "What are you doing now Reddogmaster? "I'm a GYNOCOLOGIST" (I lied) They all giggled and smiled and laughed. It was nice seeing them

:frow Sorry for the trip down memory lane!

Lavender often throw blacks and Easter eggers are wild cards
Very interesting!! Thank you!! :love so do you think they’ll stay black or develop some markings later on or? I guess it’s kind of unpredictable? Do the white wing tips mean anything?
