I Like Turkeys
Crowing
Hello. I noticed an issue today where some of my chickens had blackness on their combs. It doesn’t look like fowlpox, and i’ve never had this happen before, so i’m confused. Any clue what this is?

The others who commented were correct for me, it was just injuries, which have now gone away. I was just paranoid. Yours may be fighting too.Can you tell me how things turned out for your chicken friends? My girls are about 1 1/2 wks into the same situation. I started with only one hen having it, then a second and now 5 more. It looks just like these pics you’ve posted, maybe just slightly more advanced, and their combs are looking sort of droopy-ish.
How are they doing now?
I mean the black spots/ areas are larger across the comb. A few have small areas on the wattles as well. Some of these photos aren’t the best, I took them at night with the aid of a flashlight, so you may have to zoom in to see what I mean. I wonder if mine could be suffering from any frostbite? It’s only been down to the 40s though, but we’ve had rind and rain. I’m in Southern California and we just got our butts kicked last week with a intense rainstorm. My gals are in a covered coop so I’m not sure. The others who commented were correct for me, it was just injuries, which have now gone away. I was just paranoid. Yours may be fighting too.
What do you mean by more advanced though?
Aw yeah, I see. Around the time I posted this thread originally, Florida(where i'm located) had a cold snap and it was hitting 20 degrees at night. Some of the chickens, who hadn't been housed together in a few weeks, stayed together in the shed overnight. I now imagine the cold was a bit of a stressor for them, plus being together might've caused more fighting.I mean the black spots/ areas are larger across the comb.
