Definitely ameraucanas! It's always good to have a few BCM girls though.
I think there is more diversity in the ameraucanas, and the more breeders we have, the more diverse we can keep making them. BONUS: any culls can be sold as EEs

Or used to make olive eggers!

For me it wouldn't even be a debate...we have both but one would leave without much thought if I needed them to..the Marans would be voted off my Island

Wow folks...thanks so much for all the input so far!

The Ameraucana definitely have the edge right now. And I love, love, love the pics.

Maybe I should go to my original post and start listing the pros and cons as they are posted.

I can't vote I like them both lol. Last year I couldn't decide between the marans and the ameraucanas so I got both

I am happy with both of them too.

I love them both.. But if push came to shove... The Ameraucana's would stay and the Marans would go. For us they are so much more than the typical "chicken"... The Ameraucana really do well in our heavily forested Northern wilderness...

Keep those opinions coming!

Another pro for the Ameraucana, especially in my climate, is their comb type. I don't have to worry about frostbite.

My BCM roo has a HUGE comb. And to be honest...I've got enough to take care of this winter without worrying about keeping combs frost-free.

I had to vote for the Ameraucana. This breed seems much harder to come by. The more out there the better to get some.

Beautiful friendly birds with gorgeous blue eggs.

I am going to be attempting to hatch both breeds this month as soon as the eggs get here this week. Wish they could have been Blue Wheaten Americana but I think I will be happy with blue and black beauties. Hope I get some to hatch.

There are much more BCM votes than posted pros/opinions. Pinkchick is the only person who's given her 2 cents.

I'm just curious as to why those who are voting for the Marans aren't posting their thoughts and opinions?

but my bad, I didn't give you the cons, Marans are such a work in progress that they can be frustrating to work with as Kathy stated, and I understand why Kathy is breeding for egg color now. Cheer's to you Kathy!

Though they can be frustrating, they can be very rewarding and I will remain dedicated to them for all that makes them special and breed conservancy, all the while striving to improve upon them as close to the proposed standard as I can. Even if I only ever get 1 that is close I will be happy and will feel like I did the breed justice.

well I have a suggestion,
you could give your bwa roo and a couple of hens to your buddy in fort wayne and next year when you are ready to get another roo, you just go get your old one back from who other than the old buddy in fort wayne (that would be me) and if you ask nice enough he might even keep a couple of those bcm pullets for you too.

muhahahahahahah your getting sleepy very very sleepy
