I recieved an order of Black copper chicks today (25) and only 3 are solid black, the others all have white wing tips 2-4 feathers each on each wing..Will this go away or did I get the breeders left overs?

Thanks

When the BC are hatched they are supposed to have the Penguin look, White around the head, chest and belly and some in the wings. After the Juve molt anything with white in wing or undercolor should be culled.

I received some great quality chicks and noticed the same thing. The breeder assured me that they usually have those white feathers as chicks, but that they usually won't be there after the juvenile molt. At that point any that have white feathers should be culled. So you can relax and enjoy those cuties!

Although, as snowbird said they should have that penguin look unless they're older chicks that are already feathered/feathering.

Why do they have to be culled ?
