Hello all
I have a bcm and she's losing feathers around her neck. Was wondering
If the bcm starts molting in the spring or if it could be another chicken pulling
Feathers. Was not sure if anyone else has seen them molt in the spring
she's not even a year old yet. She won't be year old until July
Thanks for any info

i'm actually working on some british standard coppers. I dislike the feathered legs because they bleed during the molting and i live in a swampy area with lots of mud. So far the egg color is good, body size is very good but I have trouble with the color. the blacks are too over melanized and the blues are more yellow than copper. the eggs are huge thoughIs there a line of Marans out there (black copper, or blue copper, or just black)... That has perfect feet/toes?
I hate the feathered legs, but would like Marans that follow the rest of the SOP.... and of course also lay dark eggs....
BUT GOOD TOES/FEET!ones without droopy wings would be good too.![]()

Quote: I salute your efforts!
Up here feathered feet = frostbite, most of the people I sell to also want true Marans without feathered feet. My flock is a bit sparse on feathered feet so the chicks that hatch run the gamot...
I do find that the chicks with perfectly feathered feet are more likely to have toe abnormalities (usually the outer toe is just smaller, but this spring, with all of the chicks that I was hatching, I got 1 chick with toe toes very close together due to the webbing holding the toes up against each other-easily cut apart , and I had 1 chick where the ends of the middle toe and the outer toe were grown together! That one was much more bloody to cut apart. )![]()
Anyway, my flock is almost Black Marans verses Black Copper Marans -sigh- I think the eggs are a nice sized medium, but they are very dark. My rooster tails are too upright... I am trying to grow out a better rooster this summer....we shall see.
