Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Here is my FBCM that I showed a couple weeks ago. I questioned earlier because she never really had a lot of white on her but now I know that is good. Very difficult to get a good picture they never stop moving! This was taken inside the coop as my chicks spent their first night outside. Does she look good? Does she look like a pullet? I only have one so I'm hoping for a pullet. "She" is about 4 1/2 weeks old.

ETA: I noticed yesterday she has a little copper coming in around her neck, does that indicate pullet or no?

Copper around the neck can go either way, although if you do not see copper anywhere else, it's likely a girl.

I noticed with my first group of chicks, the males had a slightly more prominent circular scale on the backs of their legs where a spur would eventually develop...however, I don't recall how old they were when I first noticed it! They were probably around the same age as your (lady).

Yay!!! Thanks all, No pink on comb yet and now I know what to look for because my Swedish flower and one of my barred rocks most definitely have a little pink tinge to their comb.

So I'm looking for some help and insitw on my Black Copper maran. When I picking these birds up I was told they are all EEs I think this beauty was accidently mixed in.
Is this a hen or roo? It constantly hides behind the other Roo. Very skidisb and hen like. Around 3 months old.

My 1st BCM hatch. Do cockerel feather faster than females? This chick feather first, has one spot of copper on it's head, but no red comb. Already acts like a roo tho...stands up to my hand when I reach into the cage and flares neck feathers. Almost 8 weeks old...I would think the comb would be red by now but none of the 3 are even pink yet?!? Bottom photo is 2 of the chicks hatched...top one is him/her.

Belle 4 weeks old.

She has almost no feathers on the side of her neck. She was getting picked on by my ducks. But I separated them about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas?
