Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Here is a photo of the 3 cockerels together

These bad boys decide yesterday to do the leg bump thing with me yesterday. That earned two of them to privledge of accompaning me through the morning chicken chores . . . one under one arm and one under the other!

They were chirping to each other the whole time. . . they instantly reverted back to the sweet little cockerels they were suppose to be. Last night, I went into their pen and all the boys calmly went under the brooder - - - that was as far as they good get away from me

I love all those pictures, thanks so much for posting, Math Ace. I actually have been watching your study somewhat obsessively.

Since I posted it elsewhere, I thought I'd post a picture of my adult BCM. I'd love to hear feedback on her. Obviously she's DQ because she doesn't have ANY copper at all on her, but I'm still trying to get the hang of proper body shape, eye color, comb, etc.

I know it looks like she has white tips on the feathers on her neck, but that was light reflecting; there's no white there. Those little feathers right above her eye ARE white though. Hmm. Do chickens go gray when they're old?

I noticed that the feathers don't extend down to her toe, so I'm sure that is bad too.

I have no intention at all of showing her, I'm just trying to educate myself a little bit about breed standard, and am a very visual learner.

Great pictorial histories on your birds Lisa, thank you for sharing

Its amazing how one's eye can pick up certain traits as discussed on these Marans threads and now my eye automatically goes to certain key points such as rectangular body shape, breadth of body, eye color, comb, tail set etc., Thanks everyone for helping us nubes with visuals, its great!

OMG Math!! You got not 1 but **2** PULLETS!! Yahooo!!!

Seeing her pink comb and wattles at 1 month old gives me hope! Maybe I don't have 12 cockerels in my brooder LOL (maybe more like 11)

I just didn't want to be doing all this work while people were groaning in pain at having to look at my pics again. . . ..

As long as you guys are into it, I will keep up the work

I know that I am, PERSONALLY, am learning a lot about my own flock.

BRAVO, believe it or not, I acutually got FOUR pullets out of this hatch.
My two blues that I did not include in the study were pullets.
