Black Copper Marans discussion thread

About the underside of feathers - I think it's normal. I've seen the same thing on my BC, and on a lot of the other colors the underside of the wings is different than the side that shows.
I've never read anything about genes that affect the underside of feathers, and have not seen any faults or DQ's based on the underside color of feathers.

I'm not sure what I've got is a smooth legged BCM, I'll have to post pictures of her later- she's almost 15 weeks now. But I was wondering, are BCMs usually hefty birds? She seems to be having the most difficulty with this heat and is just a big bird. Large legs, wide body. She's also gypsy faced. I realize she may just be some hatchery experiment, but I think she's beautiful and sweet.

underside again

What do you think, is this the norm?

It looked like my girls are the same on the copper hackle feathers, but I could not get them to hold still for a photo.

My brown red oeg's males have the same color pattern underneath the hackle feathers as these pics show. I don't remember this ever coming up before. I have never heard other judges talk about this, so I don't think it is a problem.

Can someone refer me to the appropriate post (if not here?) for this question. My blue copper roo x blue hen gave me a feather legged blue pullet. I am certain of the egg and lineage. Is this a fluke or am I likely to have good percentage occur? These were breeder culls

I have just for my enjoyment (hence why I only have one pullet). If this might reoccur regularly I wouldn't mind a few more for my flock.
Thank you.
