Peter Ovalle had Reserve Champion Large Fowl with a BC Hen at the Heritage Expo this last Tuesday. It was a very nice bird. I can see big improvements in this variety as I judge.

Thanks for the input Walt. I am so close to quitting because this breed is a super challenge. A white rock would be so much easier for a newbie like me. BUt I do like my marans.

The Marans I see at shows are getting better every year. As that happens there are more opportunities to trade up to better birds. A newbie starting with birds that are still developing is quite a challenge and I can see where you might get discouraged. On the other hand if it wasn't a challenge it may not be so interesting.
