Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I was going by the older version that was dated July 2010 and it noted luster in a few places. Bev made mention once that some luster should be on the bird and yes, it was my understanding that luster and the green beetle sheen are one in the same. Hope if I am wrong that someone will correct me.

Kim, the way they describe the standard I do not believe Lustrous means green, it just means brilliant color that they are referring to. It is mentioned in several places talking about different colors.

This Proposed Standard looks pretty good to me and should go through without any other changes. I would not worry about the green sheen as this is all covered in the cutting for points section of the SOP, I do not know of an APA judge that would DQ or deduct for geeen on the BC. Don

Don I thought you would like it! It addresses the other things you didn't like before.

Kim, I should also say that I agree with you entirely about the way the standard is written up but I believe it is because the person that worded is not familiar with the terminology. Don

Sue,, I really think that the changes and additions will make it easier for everyone in the long run in the future. The main thing to remember is that anything not spelled out now is most likely covered in the first 50 pages of the SOP.

All I can say is job well done, Don

I'm glad you like it. The standards committee did a great job, and then the whole club had a say in it, and then it was voted on, so it was a community endeaver so to speak. No one person did it.

Sue

Thanks Don! But my confusion is probably self inflicted, I'm sure of it. All of the folks that had a hand in all of the updates and proposals did an excellent job.

WELCOME, Zanna!

Sorry this post is a bit late...I'm still catching up!

I see 3 major faults in your boy - complete absence of shank feathering (this I believe would DQ him), his shanks appear to be white (should be slate/pink toes), and his eyes are too light. BUT - love just about everything else on him, plus, he sorta has a bit of 'tude in his stance, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE in a roo!

Thanks Wynette and to all of you!!! He does have slate legs.......the sun was blinding yesterday (no complaints here)

and made the picture colour look a little off. Sounds like if I just pick the right henny I should be able to get pretty close to the standard we are striving for, time will tell.....I was really concerned about the lack of feathers on the legs but sounds like that is a dominant trait and fixable for future offspring (correct me if I am wrong). As the hens get older I will post some pics to get some advice on the best girly.

The hen I posted pics of is off the breeder list, I was not sure about the comb so I tried to post a good pic. of it and Don picked right up on it. Appreciate it Don, that is one of many reasons I am here! She lays a nice egg so she will stay in the egg layer flock.

Geebs, I am going to try to make the meet in Canby, April 23rd right? (I have been lurking on the thread.......) I train and show hunter/jumper horses for a living so will have to see if the schedule will allow, weekends are often tied up. Would love to meet some of you and really appreciate the warm neighborly welcome!

Cool... who are you zanna??? I work out of an A circuit barn... Stormcrow.. you know it??? I don't ride hunter/jumpers though..

I've noticed that a lot of women, especially, that have chickens, are horse lovers as well. My daughter & I have a riding barn here at my farm in NY. She teaches lessons, and I do everything else! LOL
Zannah, I took notice when I first saw your name. My daughters name is Suzannah, and I call her Zannah! Especially, when I'm angry! LOL

Zanna is just a nickname, Rosanna Caswell is my real name and I work/train at Brawley Farms in Jefferson, Oregon. I have been here for over 25 years, longer than most of the furniture
