Oh ok thanks Zanna
Wonder if this is his reticulate scales that you are seeing. On all of my Marans they have a nice vermillion colored reticulate scales that follow the line of the shank feathering almost under the feathering, but sort of right next to it. Wonder if you look under the feathering if you see this up the leg and down to the toe. I hope it is not scaly leg mites and that is just the reticulate scales you are seeing.Hey yall. I posted this under illness tab but haven't gotten any responses yet. Since he is an marans, and yall are so familiar with feathered legs, I though it would be ok to post here too. (?) 10 month old marans roo. His leg scales are not raised or rough looking at all - but it appears that there are a few missing within the feather line down his legs. Where the scales are 'missing', the skin where they were is red - almost raw looking. These aren't good pictures - it was dark enough in the coop that I was shooting blind until the flash went off. Can you see enough to have an idea what I'm talking about? These makes it look like there are long, almost bloody areas but it's really clearly outlined scale spaces that are smooth and level with the scales next to them - but tender looking and red. And, it's ONLY under the feathers. There isn't a single red spot on the clean side of his legs. He's not happy about having his legs handled - but that might very well have nothing to do with the red areas, he's a little 'touchy'. Should I treat as if he has scaly leg mites???![]()
