I have also heard of this. I had 8 BCM chicks and the males all had more white on their head area than the pullets did. Turned out 5 out of the 8 were roos.
Oh my.... that's not a very good ratio!! lol

The more white the BC Marans chick has on the head area the more chance you will not get very much Copper color regardless if it is a male or female.
Thank you Marquisella. I guess I just have to wait them out now. I wondered why since I hadn't changed anything diet wise and if anything the weather and their diet is better with more light!Ahhh, the wonderful world of Marans..they stop, they start, all when it moves them. I'm having a sudden surge in eggs, after almost nothing for a few weeks.

Dinner. He will cause you grief in the long run.OK, so this boy is related to the flaming orange twins that I posted previously; or at least is from the same breeder and batch of chicks, so I don't know how closely they might be related. Overall this guy has better color than they did, BUT! there are some other issues that I"m seeing so I'm thinking he needs to go to freezer camp. Opinions please, and also, please point out anything else I"ve missed in my comments about the photos!
No this is not a natural stance, he did not like being put up on the table for pics, but you can see reasonable color, except for those legs! He does have just a few copper feathers on the breast and they are shafted, but nothing like the orange boys.
Nearly white feet and legs with very sparse feathers
He does have a copper ear tuft, but **** that is an ugly comb and I don't see it getting any better.
If he was the only thing I had to work with I might think about keeping him as his size is decent, tho he is not the largest bird I have. But with the comb and white legs I'm thinking he will better serve me as dinner. What say you?

x2Dinner. He will cause you grief in the long run.
you know he looks more like my wheatens than my BCMS, ???? does he have
all black wing feathers or does he have some brown ones. well it was just a thought.

I agree with everyone else... but I wanted to point out his leg color is ALL wrong..... not worth breeding. Too many issues comb, leg color, leg feathering.OK, so this boy is related to the flaming orange twins that I posted previously; or at least is from the same breeder and batch of chicks, so I don't know how closely they might be related.
