Black Copper Marans discussion thread

x2 those were the 2 things I saw right off. the white almost looks like lacing or edging. I don't know if I have ever seen that in a copper. the first roos has too much copper the second I didn't see that much but I am on a phone and can't see great. my phone will not let me click them to enlarge them either.

I have seen white tipping in black coppers and Birchens. Both from reputable breeders. The white went away.

This is a pullet.

I would have to disagree. I feel it is a male. For the size which screens young and the size of comb and the copper coming in the shoulder I say a dark male.

He is 10 weeks old, and definately a cockerel... he is just the bottom ranking. The 2 pullets I do have do not have hardly any comb at all and no color on them.... He has a pretty good size comb and wattles that are pink. I will try to get some better pictures later when I can get him to hold still long enough!

Thank you all for your critiquing! I am new to all this, so it really helps to have some opinions from experienced breeders!

Now that I KNOW Birchens (meaning Coppers and Birchen Color since BOTH carry Birchen genes) carry lacing I would expect to see it.... just never have. I have seen it on birchen pullets.

I have many birds from many reputable breeders and have culls, sprigs, wrong leg color, infertile, old when I bought them, name brands don't really carry any weight with me any more. The birds are the proof in the pudding so to speak.

Thanks for that. My 4 month cockerel has white tips on a couple tailfeathers (1/8" at the end) I had not seen that before on him and I'll be very happy if it goes away. He also had one white foot feather and it is gone as are the two full white wing feathers he had when younger.

Just wanted to share what I hatched today. They need work with egg color and copper color..... and the normal stuff chickens need work on but still was SUPER excited to see this baby in the hatcher this morning..... this was my 3rd hatch and is my first ISABELLE MARAN

Help me out here Donna...what is an Isabelle Marans? I have a new chick that looks like that from my BBS. Is it the mask or ?? (I know nothing...)

Isabelle Marans are Copper Marans that express the Lavender gene. Yours is a blue not lavender. The gene was introduced to Marans.
