Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I cull pretty hard for that. I don't want slow feathering in Marans.... barred rocks are a different story. It is a sex link trait you can use it to sex chicks but I just don't want the trait in my flock. I cull for that across the board in all my solid color birds..... not a good gene. I find they are smaller and less hearty birds too.

I am talking about SLOW feathering, the kind where they are still naked at 2 months old.

DM Rippy and Sweatpea ...

HOWEVER - you see this is always the issue with putting solid "facts" in writing ... if people don't digest the whole thing ... then the subtle points - which sometimes are the most important points - are lost ... and not accusing you guys at all ! but why so many teens of today are going to have trouble in life .... they have to think and interpolate because not every aspect can be spelled out and we can't foresee everything ....

Note I said I wait for fall - a cool day. Well - if the day is cool - what is the night? Most likely into frost and freezing and the garage never heats up like the outside - so the temps are .... well - see? figure it out :)

I'm sure not eating meat that has rotted ! YUCK a DUCK

LOL! Well that does make sense. I was just wondering if it was cool enough during the day.

If I were to leave any kind of edible anything in my garage, the cats would get it, lol.

I have, however, left things to cool inside of my van...lol!

Yeah I don't see a benefit. He is so much smaller than the others I was thinking pullet. He will have to go. Too bad that beetle green is so pretty.
Thanks :)

I still have my 2 Marans boys I was growing out and they are due to be processed next week but before I do I thought I would post pics to get final feed back. The one in the foreground is the one I may consider keeping just to have though I haven't decided. I love the look of the one in the background but he has an odd comb and a lot of copper on his chest.

This is the one in the background
