I believe what you are seeing is light reflection, not actual color in the shaft of the feathers.

Yup, just to find out what they hold......... If I concentrate on breeding my original hen and her pullets to the Cock, the cockeral will be out of use for a while so thought it might be helpfull to find out what the genes would show if doubled them up with his full Sis (These 3 birds are new to me). I already have chicks on the ground from the Cock and this pullet who is his daughter. Hope you can make sense of this, I am getting groggy, probably confusing the heck out of people.........

Zanna, I would go ahead and breed the hen you are talking about to the young male. We should remember you are at the flock development stage at present and any of these matings if recorded and marked would be great. What you are doing is what we all should be doing, Having fun working with the fowl.

Correct, these girls are really black. I took over 75 pics yesterday in the same light, same camera and some looked so far from true...........

Could I get some opionions on which Marans club would be the better/best choice to join ???

Just looking to get more info and a good breeders list and be active in the Marans breed. I'm sure some of you belong, especially those who show.

Thinking about the Marans of America Club, are there any others of value,,, I'm from PA, in case anyone knows of a regional club.

Any helpful hints or suggestions ???? All input appreciated !

Ray, The MCCusa is the group promoting the Marans with the APA so should be the one you would want to support. They are writing up the different Standards for different varietys
