Black Copper Marans discussion thread

The one who looks like she's wearing tweed feathers? Yeah. She was supposed to be a green egg laying EE. When she finally started laying, she lays nice dark-ish brown ones. She was the sweetest baby but has gotten a bit flighty as she grew up.
You could even call her Mrs Tweedy after the Wallace and Gromit characters in Chicken Run. That's a great description. I wonder if she wasn't a cross with a Fav for the brown and to get the muffs. Either way that penciling, a lot like a dark brahma, is beautiful. Its too bad the cockerel has green legs. He is nice in a lot of other ways. Great for meat makers!

Those are my daughter's teeny hands! She's only Laid the one so far, but has been singing and squatting quite a bit!
Wooops!

that is great news! And I hear Ernie's been cleaning up around TX and adjacent states. Can't wait for all my babies to grow up so I can see what I've got!

Is anyone that is going to Newnan going to have any BCM eggs or chicks for sale? I had a coon get into my pen of good hens, which this year would've been my first year to hatch anything from them, and pretty much decimated them. Luckily I still have a few good hens to work with, but I would love to get some different stock, especially from someone who has stockier hens.
Thanks,
Lisa

Time to sound stupid... again
Newman?
Is there a list of poultry shows that is reliable?
Newnan is a show in Georgia. It was the location of the Black Coppers going up for acceptance into the APA. If you go to poultryshowcentral.com you can get a list of show that you can look show several ways. Valerie is always adding to it, but it is the most comprehensive one I've found online

Hi I have been lurking on this forum trying to learn from you all; so many traits that are undesirable in this breed! I would appreciate a critique of my BCM rooster please. I got him and 6 BCM hens about 3 months ago from someone who had far too many birds in too small an area and they were all going through a hard moult, mites and other issues. He has fermented feed on his comb and chest here. Thanks very much!
