Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I have a BCMs roo for sale!!! He is the same strain of the roo I previously posted about. He REALLY needs to go. He six weeks, and I am asking 6 dollars. PM me if interested.

I have black copper marans chicks. any help as far as sexing them? they seem to be getting combs, they are about 5 weeks old. ... There are quite a few stading pretty tall..:-( I sure hope I have a hen in the bunch!

Pictures? I can always tell by four weeks. The roosters should have a bright red comb by now.

ok i will have to post pict. I have a lot getting combs...do males get them before females?

The development of the comb varies, but yes, usually a rooster's comb get's larger first

Well I am getting some pullet bullets from some of my BCM girls. Can't wait to see what color the girls I have from Ernie look like! (this one is from another breed)



The bottom pic is the same egg. I wish the whole egg was this dark. It's a smidge darker in person but it has a nice sheen on it.

Does anyone have a use for black copper roosters showing no copper? I was going to cull but just thought i'd ask if anyone knows anything they are useful for. They look good for many points but almost no copper. There is a tiny hint of dark copper in the hackles but it's barely perceptible.

I am new here as well and am wondering what incubator you have had good success with in hatching Marans eggs. I live in the MidSouth if climate makes a difference

We have two cabinet incubators - one Dickey and one Brinsea 380 - and both do a good job. We probably live near you!

I'm so happy right now! I was giving my future breeding girls a good look over, and one has slightly too much cooper, AND more feathering on legs, and hold her tail lower!!! I can't wait to see what she produces with my rooster!!!
