Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Actually, you will get all blue coppers. Splash & black produce all blues. If you had a blue bred to a black copper, then it would be 50% of each. Its the rule of blues. I don't think it makes a difference if one is a "blue" splash or a regular splash.

Splash is splash...there is no "blue" splash.

While I am participating, may I ask for more images of roos? I have two - albeit young - that I am growing out and I really want to cut that down to one. I know there are lots of images here and I have seen most...but more is always better! Anyone have any they are particularly proud of? I would love to see....I am new to the breed and have a lot to learn. I posted images a while back but got no feedback, I figure I will wait and let them mature some before submitting more.

Someone had chicks for sale today and two had white dots in their heads. I understand that this is often a sex linked characteristic but none of my BCM hatches have dots. Please, someone explain this discrepancy.

Were they selling them as BCM or Cuckoos? I believe cuckoos will have a dot on their head. The dot usually goes with the barring pattern as an adult.

you can still have black copper marans and have male chicks with spots. by crossing a pure female cuckoo with a pure black copper roo, the female can only pass on the barring to the male chicks, the females will be black copper marans... maybe this is what they had?

i should add that the males will be barred and NOT BCM's..

I like 49 better, too, although I like the way the comb sits at the back on 50 better. Too bad he doesn't have the weight of 50! Also does 50 have a wry tail or is it just his stance in the photo?

Thanks; 50 has a straight tail. In the butt shot he was walking away from me at an angle; he might have also been twitching it a bit. When he is standing still his tail is straight.
