Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thank ya much :)

Here are some pics of my Marans. What do you all think about the roos. They were born April 8th if memory serves me correct

I don't see feathers on the shanks of the birds except one of the blue copper cockerels. That is a dq for the breed.

It most likely is too much calcium. At least that is what people breeding them for a while say.

I discovered today that i'm getting it in both of my marans coops now. All of them are on layer pellets, and get to go out every other day (depending on who's turn it is). I have well water that is very hard, i wonder if that is where extra calcium comes from because they are not on a calcium supplement, the eggshells are fine as far as thickness goes.

... Gee... maybe they need Evian or something LOL!!

I don't mean to cut in but i wanted to post a couple pics of my young BCMs. I have a cockeral and 2 pullets if Im not mistaken. What do ya'll think? I know the pictures aren't the greatest, sorry.

The one on the right here is the only one I see that might be a pullet. Everything else I can identify in the other photos is a rooster.

well that stinks lol, i was hoping that this one in the pic was a pullet. I guess he's just lacking in the tail feather department lol. oh well, i've got some eggs coming this week from supposedly Davis lines. Maybe if I get lucky I can gets some pullets from them.

Hm... is it the same age as the others? It doesn't have any copper on the back yet but it has more comb than the other pullet. Hard for me to tell for sure, maybe it is a pullet!

yep they're all the same age. they're around 10 weeks from what the lady i got them from said. she also said she hatched them from Davis lines. So far they don't really look like high quality birds though.

all are roos for sure and she knew that when she sold them. if you didn't buy them from Beverly Davis they are not her birds anymore.
