I also find eggs in poop and they don't have that haze. I still think it is a chemical reaction.....but something specific to some birds.
Yes I meant meat spots & blood. For a while I was getting quite a lot, but now, it seems to be less. They say its hereditary, but I also had them in my Wyandotte eggs but not so bad.

Hi all, I have a hard decision to make and need some help. I can only keep one rooster and I have 1 blue and 1 black marans roosters. Which one should I keep?

What are you breeding goals? What are their strengths/weaknesses and those of the hens they would be paired with?

The only marans hens that I have are 1 blue and 1 splash. I'm not breeding yet because they are still too young, but when I do I want to choose the rooster that can give me the most colors

I have found eggs wet and dry on roosts, ground, and coop floors. All with poop on it. Never caused any eggs to turn. I have found chalky and course eggs in dry nesting boxes. I have fed my birds strait up chick feed with no thinner shells. I don't give oyster shells. Enough in layer feed. I had up to 15 birds and would never get those eggs. I gave them just layer feed for a time and 50% of my eggs turned chalky. Went back feeding normal all fine. I have gotten a lot of those eggs to hatch though.

Blue & black give you both colors
Blue & blue give you blue, black & splash
Splash & black give you blue

it is funny that of all the breeds and egg colors I get, ONLY the Marans have these type of eggs any only SOME eggs get chalky and rough feeling.
