For their age they look pretty good to my eye! Be sure and post more pictures in two or three months when they are more grown up so we can see!

The one you said is a pullet with mossiness is. She would not be considered a breeding bird.Posted over in 'what gender/breed' and am not getting any responses, if anyone would take a look I'd really appreciate it! I need to figure out my coops for winter soon. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/817642/8wk-old-black-copper-marans-genders
Also, the one that I think is a pullet (in the first pic) has a lot of 'copper' on the tips of her feathers on her back and sides....this is means that she's "mossy" right? Not desirable for breeding toward the standard? I'm not really concerned about the breed standard, just want pretty birds to lay me dark brown eggs, and make olive-eggers with my ameraucanas.![]()
Well, all I know is Marans don't have yellow combs, especially at that age, actually, I don't know what breed does? Beigy, but yellow? Could it be a combination of Pea comb & straight?Hmmmmm. Interesting about the 2nd one. it DOES have a single comb....it's just wider. A bit like my olive-egger pullet now that I think of it (came from 2 different breeders, hatched a month apart, so I know they didn't get mixed up). Hmmmmm.
Papa Brooders.....nice guy!Looking for some black copper chicks anyone from northern California?
