Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thanks for your input everyone. It is 1 male and 3 girls and they are all 11 weeks old. But they are to dark? That's good to know. Ill post new pictures in a few weeks.

Speaking of white feathers..... I have a 6 month old pullet that has been laying for at least a month or so. She still has a white-ish feather in her wing. Shouldn't that be gone by now? She also had a white shank feather for a while, too, but that seems to be gone.

6 months is too long to wait for the white feather to turn Black. I like for them to leave in the Juve molt at 4-5 months . She is still good for a layer pen though. The only draw back is the Marans usually do not lay as good as most other breeds.

Good Luck !!! Blarney ! !!!

Best of luck, Blarney!  make sure to oil his legs, comb, & wattles so they're nice & spiffy!  Also, file down the sharp points on his toenails...that's much appreciated by judges!  (Sorry, not trying to tell you what to do...just thought I'd add some words of encouragement!)

Thank You! My son's BCMs got BB and RB.... Sounds good, except they were the only 2 entered in the show! Oh well, as long as they don't DQ....we're happy! Yay!

Is there anything more exciting than finding a new egg in the nest box? Maybe only finding one as dark as this one (top right)!!

These are some of my marans eggs....some from old girls, 2 cuckoo eggs, and one other newer pullet besides the really dark egg. (Orpington egg top left.)

Can I please get opinions. I am just starting out with BCM's and I have access to either the regular BCM, rooster is show quality or French BCM. somehow someone here was able to get eggs through customs years ago from France.
