Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I do have EE Hens... so i should try crossing them with the BCM? and get olive ee's?
Check out the olive egger posts here at BYC or Olive Eggers on facebook for a very good OE breeding chart by Steve Neumann.

The only way to guarantee olive eggs on F1 is to cross a dark brown egg laying breed (the darker the better which is why BCM are so popular) with a individual that carries TWO blue egg genes (Araucana, Ameraucana, Isbar, cream legbar). Crossing to an EE is a crapshoot. IF that EE carries two blue egg genes you'll get olive, but IF that EE has only one blue egg gene you will statistically get 50% olive layers and 50% brown layers. Go find the chart and study it to avoid a lot of time spent and resultant frustration if you don't know what genetics your EE carry.

It's my first time with BCM, how do we feel about my almost 6 week "pullet" on the front/right? The comb is the same size as the other 2 but I noticed a little red this morning.

Hey y'all! I'm looking to sell my trio of black copper marans. They're all great quality, and have feathering down the legs. The rooster doesn't have much left after getting in a bad fight, but used to have to most out of all of them! Asking $30 obo

Okay time to ask the experts again since Google has failed me. And thanks in advance for all the great advise you all provide! I have 4 different shipments of hatching eggs arriving this week (BCMs and Isbars...yay!). They will probably arrive Wednesday and Thursday. Is it better to hold the first ones and put them all in the incubator at the same time or put them in as they arrive (and are ready after their resting period)? They may arrive separated by 2 or 3 days at worse.

So for those that will advise to put them in as they arrive...how does that work with lockdown?

Thanks so much everyone!

If it is only 2-3 days I would go with all at one time, Don

If this male didn't have the blended Wheaten influence Hackle he would be a nice looking Male, Don
