what's wrong with her eyes ?
LOL.
What do you mean exactly? She has that racoon, badger mask thing going on but other than that I don't think anything.Follow along with the video below to see how to install our site as a web app on your home screen.

Hi, newbie here. My husband and I are just setting up a coop. He's French and I've lived in France a few times and when I was researching breeds I remembered that I like the taste of French eggs better than I like American eggs. I know a lot of it can be because of what the hens eat, but because some people do seem to feel that BCM eggs taste better, and because of the sheer coolness of having French hens, I've kind of got my heart set on Black Copper Marans.
Trouble is, they're (as I gather) hard to find at the best of times, and being that this is not really the season for baby chicks, they're even harder to find now.
Does anyone have any leads on breeders in the northern half of California who offer sexed chicks? I'm just looking for three. I'd be willing to drive a 3-4 hour radius around the bay area.
I should add that next week I'll be driving from Denver CO to Salina KS to visit family and could also theoretically pick up chicks anywhere in between, assuming it's possible to take them home with me on an airplane.
I'm also willing to wait a while.
Here's what I've tried:
I left a message for Deb's Birds, mentioned on one of the threads here, haven't heard back yet but it's only been a day or so
I looked at the Marans Breeder's association and looked up the local breeders but none of them were really turning anything up as far as a website or contact info
I've called all my local feed stores. A few get in cuckoo marans occasionally, but none ever get BCMs
I've looked at Craigslist. There are a few possibilities there but I don't know how to tell what's good and what's not.
I've called mypetchicken.com. They don't have any now but said they don't know from week to week what they might get so advised me to check back every week just in case.
Any suggestions you guys have would be most welcome. Thanks!

I have dealt with RFR of CA personally with another breed I bought and can recommend this breeder.Start here:https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/25/california-northern/62450
Plenty of breeders in the northern area, not very many offer sexed chicks to my knowledge. You are right about the time of year in regards to that too. Pullets might be a better option at this point, or wating til spring. Alchemist Farms, CR Poultry, Rare Feathers Ranch (RFR of CA just a few posts above), Unionhill ranch are all ones ive reasearched, dealt with, or hope to deal with in the very near future. All have some wonderful looking Marans.
Good luck to you! And welcome to the boards.
Sunbird Farms in Central Calif (Visalia) has Bresse and Barbezieux (French breeds) and non-French like Sulmtaler, Niederrheiner, and Isbar. Sunbird seems to specialize in meat birds that also are good layers but you'd have to ask about Marans. If you decide on either the Bresse or Barbezieux French breeds you can contact them or look over their website and call to see what other breeds they have - I suspect they don't list all their breeds as the website removes/adds breeds from time to time. http://sunbirdfarms.com/about/
