Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Blue Maran rooster over Black copper Maran rooster. I heard blue Maran and cuckoo Marana don't lay eggs as dark, so the offspring eggs would be lighter than a BCM.

It just depends on the darkness of the blue rooster's genes. Black coppers are known to be the darkest layers, but I've seen some that are barely a 4 (just dark enough to be called a marans). Generally speaking the black, blue and splashes can all be created from each other, so the eggs could be the same darkness.

Top left is my BCM. Yes.... I know it is terrible. The other four brown eggs are my BBS Marans. These pullets have been laying about a month.

Thanks that is good to know, the breeder has beautiful show quality birds so the eggs will probably stay dark then.

my bcm first egg was like top left in your pic. the next was like top middle and now her eggs are something between bottom right and bottom left.

Ok, guys, I'm about to start my next adventure with BCM, hopefully better than the first. I was on Julie Akers' waiting list, and she just called. They will be here Thursday
