Tiegrsi,

The coloring of the chick in the first pic does not look correct to me for a BCM. The other two chicks have the classic BCM coloring for chicks which some folks describe as penguiny. Most of the BCM chicks that I have seen look like your 2nd and 3rd chicks - black heads/body with white or gray chests. I have seen a couple of BCM Lines that produce mostly black chicks.

You mentioned that one chick has yellow legs/feet with no feathering. Would that be the chick in the first pic? All three chicks look very healthy. As a rule, I do not worry about leg/feet color until they are 3-4 weeks old as the color should change to light/slate gray.

Good Luck with your chicks!
Keith

A reply to all:

I actually got 13 of these beauties. I'm sure there will be cull birds in the lot (there are several that have a lot of light coloring) but I got them more for the eggs than breeding. If any turn out to be exceptional I will either look into breeding or sell them to others who do. The yellow legged one actually is a different one...he already has quite a bit of copper on his head and mossiness in the wings...but I love the coloring and I'd be happy to have them be good tempered and pleasant looking to me, and not necessarily show quality or breeding quality. :) I will be taking pictures of all of them this weekend as I would like to keep track of them as they grow, I'll try to put them all together in one picture so as to not overload the thread.

Haha our 18 wk old BCM roo decided he was gonna try out the nesting box today!
A couple nonlayer pullets came and looked at him like he was nuts.
What time do your roos tend to start crowing in the mornings? King Titan starts 630am sometimes earlier other times later

Aren't they funny when they make all that fuss and sit in the nesting box? Mine start about an hour before daylight.

My Australorp likes to call the ladies to the boxes several times a day. His big feet have ruined many eggs

My boys can be heard crowin around 3 in the morning, and all the girls will be wanting out around 4 AM
