Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Oh heck I may even go to the show with ya... is it an all day affair????

That would be cool! Yes, its actually 2 shows per day up at Clark County Fairgrounds (Ridgefield, WA) and its 2 days of showing, so 4 shows all together.

I'm having trouble figuring out where to buy a Black Copper Marans chick...these are my first chickens so I'm not very knowledgeable on chicken buying "etiquette". Do any breeders ship chicks? Or only hatcheries? Do I just message people on this thread who sound like they have chickens they sell? Is there a list somewhere so I'm not bugging people?

I found a couple people in my homestate on Craigslist, but their eggs are only 6-7s and I'd really like a 9! Is that impossible?? Am I kidding myself, LOL???

Hello everyone!! Geebs, congratulations on the show!!!
Seabreeze, I have still not gotten you the pics I promised, I will. I still have 8, a little over 3 months old, still can't tell the sex of 3

but 5 I know are roos. They are supposed to be the Bev Davis line and are pretty chunky compared to others I have that are supposed to be Wade Jean/Bev Davis lines. I will post the pics on here so everyone can give an opinion on a match with your gorgeous hen (I am so jelous!). Is 3 months be old enough to get a good idea or still too young? Geebs, if your roo is a good match great, I would love to see a picture of him as part of my learning curve.............

It may just be me here, but I'm not seeing pure bred Marans here. The body and tail shape is not what it should be. How old are these birds? Where are you located? The hackle color is very light, straw colored, which is not desireable. The tail looks to be "fan" shaped and long for a pullet. How big are they? They also look to be on the small size to me. Just my opinion here, hopefully, someone else will chime in.

I agree, those tails are not anything like a Marans tail. I agree they are mixed.

Add me to the group that says something's not right. Sorry.

They seem to have the silhouette and general lookiness of an OEGB.

Here is a picture of one that did not go to Newnan... He didn't make weight... Just look at the copper balance... I think his back could be longer, however I can not ignore the really excellent color on this bird... Whadya all think of the color????

Okay....I have forgotten the specifics of the study and will have to go back and look, but will post photos of my 3 new Black Copper Chicks that just hatched.

First chick, blue band first hatched..I believe this is a pullet.

Second to hatch, purple band...I believe this may also be a pullet.

And the last little one to hatch just this morning, pink band...I think this one may be a cockerel.
