I really like how Black they are at this age. I don't see any of the brown looking chicks, very nice. Don

)...anyway...Don, I've followed your posts I believe since you started posting over in the Marans thread and I don't see you comment on chicks very often.....they must have caught your eye. This is good....gives me a clue as to what you look for in your chicks. Always nice to get a glimpse of what others see!

Thanks Don ! These are our first BCM and i did as much research as my little brain could take and chose this breeder and saw his breeding stock along with what he has culled from the flock and he is a devoted breeder!

Kim, will try and explain some of what I like about the chicks. First I like that they are mostly Black with very little white around the head. I like the way they hold their wings up where they are supposed to be carried. The chicks will not have the brown under side as adults and from my experience should have very little chance for white wing , Tail aand white undercolor in the hackles. I hope hammer will post more pictures are they grow so we can see if I am right, very nice alert chicks though. Don

Gos thanks everyone for the response. Guess new kids can't come and play?

Request like this usually do not get a responce unless someone has what you are looking for. If you have other questions why not ask them now. Don

Sorry your post was overlooked Whimsy....sometimes topics at hand can get away with the thread. Posting again was great.....thank you for doing that. I don't know of any breeders in Kentucky but I know there has to be. Have you tried looking on the breeders list at the Marans Chicken Club USA or the Marans of America Club.....both have breeder lists and list states for those looking. I'm sure that others will be by and chime in and they probably have some of those names right on the tip of their tongues, unlike me. You could also try looking in the BYC section of buy, sell, trade or hatching eggs and birds. Are you looking for hatching eggs or are you looking for started chicks or birds?

Thanks for the response, I have contacted both address on Marans Chicken Club USA. There were some on feathersite for auction, however it was for a pair and at this point I really just want hens. I am over run with Foley Wyndottes and hubby may hurt me if I got another

Just finished examining the birds. The blue girl, the worst thus far, has been 24 hrs without symptoms. She's already put on weight! None of the others have symptoms. They seem to have potentially come out of this. They will stay on antibiotics for a few more days. I will still do the blood test and if they are carriers of whatever this was then I will try to get the breeder to buy them back.

I hope I can keep them, I've gotten rather attached to the rooster.
And the BCM with too much feathering? The wings match Sherman's in shape, not the ones that I am certain are girls. And it's comb and wattle are almost as red. And the smallest girl, a BCM, is both Beetle and mossy?! On the same feathers!!
So if I can keep them then it looks like I'll have a black trio and a blue pair! And I have no clue how I'll separate them. One of the roos may get culled if they can't get along. I couldn't sell them in good conscience since they've been ill.

Even though this first week has been Chicken Hell, I have the bug and I already want more. This is just wrong! I should never want to see another chicken as long as I live, but I'm already thinking of more Marans and some Ameracaunas.

I finally saw posts from the Newnan Show. Congrats on approval!
