Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thank you, Don.

I was hoping you would voice an opinion.

Nice to hear from you Marquisella. I will go google "thumbprint comb". I got rooster overload at my house, so I weighed them, examined combs, leg feathering and toes today. I noticed that there was a lot of UGLY combs going at my place. Faults, I will deal with since it is part of the whole package. HOWEVER, DQ's have to LEAVE!

DON,

Take a look at the EYES on #4. . ..

I have a few cockerels that have issues around the eye. They aren't perfectly oval . . . like #4 kinda has a little wave action going on around the eye . ..

Is this a problem? IF so, is it a fault or is it a DQ?

THANKS

Lisa, I noticed that the wattles and around the eye are wrinkled and wavy. I would keep just the one for now and let him grow a little, forgot to say looks to have a little white in ear lobe also. Don

I will have to LOOK carefully tomorrow. Some of these are BLUE copper marans and I think it is just the way the light was messing with the blue in the picture . . . . BUT I WILL check and make sure.

I have a 18 week cockerel who has a wattle that makes a "v" at the bottom of the eye. I have not seen this before and did not know what to make of it. . .

I'll try to get a picture of it soon.

APA SOP

I can only find one picture of a split ( a DQ) and one of a Thumb mark ( a.k.a. Thumb print comb and a fault).
What is the difference between a "DEFECT" and a "FAULT"?

The SOP lists Thumb marks as "DEFECTS" and twisted combs as "Faults". What is the difference betweem the thumb print and the twisted combs?I see that Wrinkled wattles and loosely fitted ear lobes are "faults" too.

Are the only DQ's on the comb going to be - - - Split combs, side sprigs and lopped single combs?

I really don't understand the example given of a split comb. . . can anyone help me out with pictures or a better definition. . .

Lisa, the split comb is just the looks like someone split the blade part of the comb.
Too win in any class with twisted or thumb print comb would have to be a sorry class.
You are right about all the DQs on the comb. Don

NOW, I want to talk about EAR LOBES and Wattles . . . I can repost the pics OR you can go back to post # 1496 on PAGE 150

PLEASE look at ear lobes wattles, then give me feed back. . . Thanks

ARE there any DQ's for ear lobes and wattles or just faults ? ? ? How big of a deal are they ?
