Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I must say, my little Bev Davis pullets are stealing my heart. They're really sweet and now that their plumage is coming in they look like black doves. I'm naming my favorite 'Cosette'.

The black stripe in Hackle and Saddle feathers is what gives the feathers the flame effect talked about by the French . Don

So is it a good thing, or not so good thing?? When the French use the term "flame", does it also refer to the lighter colored hackles or just the stripe?
