Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I'm guessing but I think the wheaten may help bring copper to the table on the females? As I said, guessing. I believe my Blue Coppers may have Wheaten in their background because of how some of the black coppers looked. I seem to be getting nice copper in my females from a Blue Copper brother of a black copper that was REALLY suspect for wheaten. But, as I said, just guessing. I have very limited experience.

No yellow on those hackles! He is beautiful, thank you for posting this pic.
I have been studying the SOP. Is this too much mahogany? I am still learning. Can anyone tell me if this is correct coloring?
he has way yellow legs.... and believe he might be a cross due to the body type... maybe to a brahma or other large bird like that, not sure what tho. but the copper color I really like, but do think he would fall under mahogany as it is a bit darker.

If I'm understanding the color, the rooster should have the same color head to tailoops, not the best description, rather, hackles and saddle and _______. THe areas from beak to, but not including, tail.

Thanks Christie for posting the pic. The owner told me its a cell phone pic and his legs are picking up the color of the grass, she says he has gray colored legs. I asked if he has feathers in middle toe and she said she would have to check. Thanks.

His leg are YELLOW, he is a cross with something, his body type is not right for a marans, he also has a triangle of color on his wing. BCM don't have that, wheaten marans do, but he is not a wheaten marans either. He is a cross with something that has yellow legs (yellow legs are recessive so he has 2 copies of yellow legs for it express) and Partridge coloring.

Sorry he is pretty but not a Black Copper Marans .... Is he maybe a Brahma mix like Vicki suggested? he is not a Brahma wrong comb and wrong leg feathering, they have very heavy feathered legs.

he also has a triangle of color on his wing. BCM don't have that, wheaten marans do,
Ok forgive me.. I am too pooped to get up and go in the other room to get my book that has the feather anatomy pics and can't seem to find the pic I want on google. What part of the wing is the bow?
The SOP for black copper says
"Wings—Shoulders : Black.
Fronts : Black.
Bows : Deep russet red.
Coverts : Lustrous black.
Primaries : Black.
Secondaries : Black, exposed portion forming black wing bay."

So what part of the wing is supposed to have deep russet red?

Inquiring minds want to know----- I was too tired to go looking for a picture on anatomy. WIll dothat so day though. And, Donna, You must have superman eyes. I can't see the color in that shadow!! LOL
