Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Forgive the last reply, I am having all kinds of weird things going on with posting pics this morning.

Here is another pic of Roy, same age as before, taken about a year ago. This was still in bright sun, look at the saddle feathers for mahogany. Also note the black ear feathering.

Mahogany can also be found in Blues as well. Here is Myron, again, look at the saddle feathers for more correct coloring. Note the black ear tufts on him as well.

This is something new.... I just have a sore throat may be getting a fever. Nothing major yet, but I don't sleep well with my throat.
Just a thought, but there have been an extreme amount of Mononucleosis cases going around out here. Hope you all get to feeling better soon!

The Black Breasted Male would be like a Wheaten Male. The Brown Red would be similiar to the Black Copper. The Black Copper can Have a few copper spots on the chest without being marked down. I prefer to have no Copper on the Breast of the Black Copper.

I hope no one thinks the Mahogany colored Marans from the Black Copper are culls. I have used them with good luck in the past and will use them again in the future. The feather color is just like everything else making matings with averages in mind.

Thanks for clearing that up Don. I wasn't so far off then. I was so tired last night I couldn't think straight.
And agree with the Mahogany color being usable, I just don't like the straw colored birds for the most part.

Arielle, When it comes to the Hackle and Saddle on the Black Copper Marans they should have the Flame going on and that is the feathe should have Copper with a black stripe down the middle stopping before the end of feather. We went over this in the past. The width of the black stripe has bearings on reproducing the stripe and Feather color.

Edited to say the Mahogany colored Males will not have much in the way of a flame going on. The Copper colored feathers it will be more apparent.

Both of my boys have the flames, Roy being lighter has more than Clyde. Here is a pic of Clyde showing better mahogany color, and you can see the flames in his hackles and saddles. This pic was taken in March of this year, despite what the pic says. I hadn't figured out my time/date stamp yet on the new camera. And yes, that is a white feather in his tail, although it did molt out since.
