Black Copper Marans Eggs on eBay

bayhorsebonne sells on ebay because it does away with waiting lists. You want it? Buy it. End of story. Whether someone sells eggs on ebay is no measure of their ethics. The high prices are a measure of the high demand. She starts her auctions at $24.99 or so and where ever it ends up after that is no reflection on her morals or breeding program other than perhaps to reflect positively that her breeding program is producing highly desireable birds that people would rather buy now for more money than wait a year for someone else to contact them to buy "right now" or you are kicked off the list. Sometimes it is a matter of timing, when a person has time coming available to brood chicks, money available to buy, or when they would like their future hens to be laying by, and an extra hundred or so just doesn't matter to them. Every time one of her auctions goes higher than someone else is comfortable with, this subject comes up and gets hashed over again and again, with people somehow painting her at fault for people finding her stock desireable and wanting it now. I just don't get it. She does well, in every sense of the word, and people get mad.

I am not saying that anyone is not ethnical. I am just saying that there are some on ebay that are not as honest as others. just do your homework and be careful. I thought he was a good seller he had perfect feedback, but it was my mistake I should have waited and bought on here. I have been on maransguys list for awhile now suppose to get eggs in the spring. but DH did not want to wait. He is so impatient. You should see him when our eggs are due to hatch. He tells me all the time on day 19 you probably killed them. then they start to pip and hatch, he is like an expecting father again everytime. lol paces the floor checks the incubator at least 10 times an hour when he is home from work, and calls me from work to find out if any have hatched yet. He is comical!!!

everyone have a great day and a blessed new year!!

I don't see how you can make a blanket statement like that - Bev Davis sells on the auction sites as well as some other top breeders.

I went to ebay and looked at his feedback, why did you not go back and do a follow up and let everyone know that you got "mutt chicks". You have I think up to 30 days to go back and do a follow up.
Sorry about your mutt chicks, not all ebay sellers are like that.

I know that I have two of the most beautiful small beltsville whites from your eggs they are getting so big now and almost 5 weeks old now. You should see them dh said he will probably get more eggs from you in the spring. My dd loves her babies as she calls the turkeys
I did not leave feedback because he was sending threatning emails to me. I now have a new email address and he did refund my money. and yes I contacted ebay about the emails and nothing was done about it either. DH said just not to leave any feedback because of all the emails he sent to us.

All of my chickens came from eggs we got on eBay except our original six we bought locally. [And we've had well over 100 eggs this year that we've hatched - purchased through 2 dozen different auctions].

I have gotten some amazingly great chicks from eBay sellers. I have also gotten some that were absolute mutts and not at all what was advertised. I have had an eBay seller ship me eggs that were rotten and stinking when they got here [2 days in the mail, so it wasn't like they got lost in transit]. I've had other ebay sellers who sent not only what I paid for but almost DOUBLE in extras.

Ebay is a mixed bag, just like everything else in life.

But I believe that buying on eBay has allowed me to get much better stock than I would have gotten if I ordered from hatcheries. I have been mostly very happy with my eBay purchases and with the sellers I've dealt with. Sometimes I've gotten messed over by a seller, but no matter what you do in life you are gonna have stuff like that happen.

Generally speaking though, I think most eBay sellers are honest, good people with good stock and I get more than I paid for MUCH more often than I get lied to and cheated.

The comment about feedback is really a good one - I always, ALWAYS go back and leave follow up feedback after my chicks hatch [I don't leave feedback if the hatch is bad because there is so much of that which could be MY fault]. But if I have a great hatch, I share that. If the chicks were especially good quality, I share that. If I got something completely different than what I ordered and the seller wasn't willing to make that right, then I would share that as well.

I wish everyone who bought eggs on eBay would do that - it would help us all so much to avoid the bad sellers and to know who the better sellers are.

I am still waiting for the answer to this question as I am wondering the same thing. This is what the feedback system is for. It is used to either warn people of the bad practices of a seller, OR to let the buyer know that the seller is A-OK and to "go-ahead and buy from them"! At least that is what it is SUPPOSED to be for.

And, like onthespot, I am so over this subject being brought up every time the marans eggs go over the value of what someone "thinks" they should be.
In an auction-style venue, the buyer sets the value. Nuff said, end of story. As with anything else, it is supply and demand.

People don't seem to understand that E-bay has a lot more protections for buyers than entering in to a private, gentleman's agreement with a seller to be added to their waiting list does.
A seller/breeder has a lot more control in a private agreement with no written rules or guarantees for the buyer. As a buyer you have absolutely no recourse what-so-ever if you are not happy with what a seller does or does not do in a private arrangement like that. You have to completely depend on their word. That's all you have. There's no process, no written rules and no guarantees.

I'm not saying there aren't a few schmucks selling on E-bay, but usually they don't stay selling there for long because buyers have rights on E-bay and E-bay sellers are well aware of it. The ones who have been selling for a while and have lots of good feedback are usually very safe to do business with.

I have left feedback for him now you can go and see if you don't believe me. and I can send you a copy of the threatning emails also if that is what you want. I left a neutral because he did refund my money as I stated earlier. just pm me and I will send you a copy of the emails.

Yikes! That is horrible! At least he refunded your money. Maybe you can sell your chicks on Craigslist.?? I want buyers to be happy whether it is public or private. If they are unhappy, though, I like to have the chance to fix it before I get blasted. Mistakes happen, but sellers should do what they can to be honest and fair--NEVER threatening!
