Black Copper Marans Eggs on eBay

Can you post the sellers name so that we know who to stay away from?

Is it legal to own emus in all states?

tat2u2 he has not sold anymore that I know of but he might have I really don't know for sure
I don't know what they are all I know is they have feathered legs. I also have some barred rocks and delaware chicks in there but they are only 2 weeks old.
I think the one is a cuckoo for the rest of them I don't know 1 is white with brown and black spots on its back, the others are getting like white spots on their chests. Your guess is as good as mine.

Did you look at his pictures?? It shows that there are more then just Black Coppers in the pen with the Black Coppers, that would explain some of the unique chicks you got. He says that he separated them, but how long before the auction?????

I agree about the fad I just got mine for pretty eggs and then later figured out they were from great breeders and great lines but I can't have a rooster to breed to them

these girls are super friendly though.

yes we know that but we emailed him and he said he had them seperated now and had them that way for awhile he assured us that they were purebreed. I still have his emails that he sent to me stating this. boy were we very upset also just imagine thinking we were getting 18 bcm eggs and we got 6 marked bc on the top and 12 marked wm on top then have black chickes come out of white maran eggs. I would love to have some purebreed Naveed said he would sell me 18 for 120.00 + shipping and 2 extras

LOL! I wasn't "dinging" you... I'll tell you what, if you want to know what really raised my suspicions... it is this:

"Many people are selling Marans eggs as Black Coppers, when in fact, they are "Sport" Marans, which is a nice way of saying a MUTT! The eggs demand high prices, which always entices unscrupulous sellers to scam unknowing buyers."

While that is more than likely true, it sounds too much like you're pointing the finger at others in the hopes that no one will discover that you're the unscrupulous seller who is trying to scam unknowing buyers. I'm sure there's some scientific term for that kind of advertising... I know my kids do it all the time.

At any rate, after exchanging a few emails with you, my doubts were completely erased, and I was going to go bid on your auction -- but I was too late. Perhaps that was meant to be, though, as I have since found a better deal direct from a well-known, reputable breeder. I just have to wait until Feb/Mar... which is ok.

I think the assumptions are correct on the Marans bubble. I think it's about to burst, myself. I wish I had gotten started with them two years ago when I started my Ameraucana's.

Oh well. I never even thought about owning them to get rich. I want them simply because they are beautiful, gentle, and lay beautiful eggs. I love eggs... yummy! BUT, I don't want to be a victim of scamming, either. I don't have money to waste. I want pure-bred birds that are going to lay nice, large, dark brown eggs. I have no intention of selling on ebay. But I would like to sell eating eggs at the local farmer's market, and dark eggs would definitely be a positive selling point.

That is my motivation for being selective on where my hatching eggs come from. That is why I asked mothergoose if she could provide a "pedigree". I wish all sellers would explain where their birds came from. So often you see in big bold text, "Pure Wade Jeanne Lines," etc... So what! That doesn't tell me anything. You could have gotten your eggs from someone, who got them from someone, who got them from someone who decided it would be fun to cross them with a wellsummer, who got them from someone who crossed them with a cochin, who got them from someone, who got them from wade jeane. It irritates me that people get defensive when you ask how many breeders away from Bev Davis their cock is. Not to mention it makes me awfully suspicious...

Because I think the bubble is so close to bursting, and because I don't want Marans just so that I can get in on the frenzy and make some quick cash, I think I will just wait until next year... or go with a much less desirable variety, such as blue coppers, or my other fav, wheatens. I have seen some VERY dark, very cheap eggs coming from cuckoos, but I don't know... I have to draw the line somewhere.

Sorry, mothergoose, if I offended you. I certainly didn't mean to. Your eggs and birds look very nice. I think if you stayed away from the negative verbiage and just accentuate the positive, you'll do much better. It's not necessary to point the finger at what others are doing. Your birds and eggs speak for themselves!
