I am fully aware that ISA Browns are a patented hybrid and their genetic makeup is highly classified, however they have been around some time and they must reveal some of their hidden genetic secrets in their off spring. I am trying to figurout what a BCM rooster over a ISA Brown hen will render? Anyone help? Also what about a large fowl Barred Rock over a Bantam Barred Rock? Will they be split LF/Bantam?

On our Citys directory and information on keeping backyard flocks, this web community is on the brochure... BYC shout out!

Everything I've ever read on Isa Browns indicates that at least the two initial breeds used in producing this red sex link hybrid were Rhode Island Red roosters and Rhode Island White hens (Examples: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...island-red-female-and-rhode-island-white-male, http://www.critters360.com/index.php/poultry-breed-facts-isa-brown-8530/, http://www.ultimatefowl.com/wiki/index.php?title=ISA_Brown). It is after the original RIR x RIW cross that things get fuzzy. Apparently at some point some White Leghorn blood was introduced into the mix, and probably a few other breeds as well. Since Isa Browns are hybrids to begin with, crossing a BCM rooster with an ISA Brown hen will produce a mixed breed with a number of uncertain characteristics.

The white chick with red feather on the wings is an Isa Brown hen x Lavender Orpington roo. It’s a very healthy, friendly, fast growing chick.

What does the caponization poll have to do with this thread? Just curious.

No idea what ISA browns are comprised of, but it would certainly be interesting to know.

As to the poll, caponization is ugly. I find it a bit gruesome (yes I have done it) but then again, so is spaying a dog. I don't believe we should apply these standards to one animal while making it illegal for other animals. Either all in or all out, as far as sterilization of animals goes.

The only Highly Classified about them is their productivity performance, their genotype for their way they look is actually pretty strait forward.

Taking a deep look at the hen on the pic you can see she is clearly Columbian restrictor(like RIR or NH), they have Dominant White and are clearly gold based at the s sex linked locus(s+/-) as chick they look to be Orangy and that makes them wheaten based eWh.

So you can input on the chicken calculator eWh/eWh, Co/Co, I/I, s+/-.

Black Copper Marans are ER/ER, co+/co+, i+/i+, s+/s+(for males).

The cross result will be ER/eWh(white chick down due to dominant white), Co/co+(partially restricted, showing alot of gold leakage on the breast and body areas), I/i+(White) and s+/s+(gold based), this translate to a White gold birchen phenotype that will have gold leakage on the breast and underside.
