Cuckoo Marans eggs are more reasonably priced than Black Copper Marans eggs right now. I give mine away for the cost of shipping, but I'm barely getting any eggs right now, so it's hardly worth the wait! And they are pretty light as it's the end of the laying season, poor girls are running out of paint!
I love the dark eggs too, and I would recommend the Cuckoo Marans, or wait til the Black Coppers arent so high. I think the prices are high because people will pay it, supply and demand.
When people quit paying this much, when the birds are more available, they will cost less. Hopefully they will still be good quality birds, and not be too inbred or crossbred in an unhealthy manner?
I wouldnt consider them a good investment just for money, you should know what you're getting in to. These are a bird with a rich history, they are the subjects of careful breeding, and specific standards. Please dont get into it just to make a penny, and sell for a profit and not care about the breed itself? Black Copper Marans are a beautiful bird that lay a dark brown egg, but there is much more to them than that, really
. Oops, I'll step down now....Tina
