Black crested White Polish

Truth be told, I unfortunately had to part with all my BCW in May.

DV situation led to me leaving my home super quick, and then there was the threat of all my birds dying if they got left there, plus not knowing if I’d get to go back, so I had rehomed everything I owned in about a 24 hour time span. BCWs went to a very kind breeder in South FL who already had a small flock of her own. Now that I’m settled again, I have a few birds back, but not the BCWs.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get eggs to restart my flock soon, maybe sometime this fall, or by latest in the Springtime.

Still stand by the fact I want to keep breeding BCWs. Just being slowed down by tricky life situations. I’m hoping to get back into it soon enough, I miss these cool birds already.
Wow, that’s an awful situation! I’m glad you’re safe and settled again.

Ahh I sorry! That’s horrible!! Hopefully you can get some birds back soon.

Sad times.

Hope you can get back to it sometime.

I’ve lost a total of 9 chicks in 5 days, including the mixed-up cochin. Of my 11 remaining polish, I feel they seem healthy. They’ve been bulking up, though one is runtier than the others, and I still have at least two I feel could be good for starting a breeding program.
So far, it seems correct that the lighter chicks have better coloration. They only have wing feathers at the moment, but I have two light chicks and their wings are considerably better colored than the others.
I‘ve attached some photos below.

The above photos are of darker chicks. The below is of a lighter chick. This one has a bit of black smudging, but it is still better than the rest of the chicks.

I may order some more from ideal soon, to boost population and the amount of good starting birds to work with. Who knows though.

I lost everyone of the ones I got from ideal within the 48 hour alive arrival period

A picture from the show in Germany I found on one of my Facebook groups!

Also this.

Seems across the sea the crests are reasonably sized. I've noticed this even in the silkies.

I think they've got limitations or bans on vaults or something. General crest size of polish overseas aside, that male has a pretty big crest for a black crested white. Doesn't look like his breast is overly marked either. Besides a few issues in type, he looks nice. Pictures from Matthieu leuridan right? I follow him, mostly because I like seeing how different birds can be in other countries(and also because he posts pictures of birds that are rare here). He's got a fair amount of BCW pictures if you scroll back through his page far enough.

Yup that's from him. I follow him as well.

I recently had the opportunity to acquire a Black Crested White Polish rooster; however, no hens of the same variety were available for purchase. As such, I am seeking advice on suitable pairings for him, given that hens of the same variety are unavailable. I am considering a poorly laced Silver Laced hen as a potential match, but would appreciate any guidance or recommendations on the matter.
