1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) RIR Bantam, 3+ years old, about two pounds?
2) What is the behavior, exactly.Well, she's dead, for one thing. Last night i went to lock up the coops and found her wandering around. She had a clear discharge from her nose and eyes, and white and black scabs on her comb. This morning, she was dead on the coop floor. Black discharge from her nose, and a foul smell, almost as though she was already rotting.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?Yesterday morning she was absolutly fine.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?None that I know of, but obviously this strikes quick.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma? Nothing, she's just dead.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. We do have black widow and occasionally brown recluse spiders in our area at this time of year. I have not introduced any new birds for several months, nor have I attended any shows.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all? She ate meatbird feed (because of the high protein) as well as scratch, and had access to clean water.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Runny.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use: Large coop, with straw and pine shavings as bedding. She lived there with a duck, 7 chicks, and 6 other adult bantams. The coop is covered from the sun, and was just sprayed for bugs two weeks ago, with Adams flea and tick spray.
