Black duck egg

Hello - today I found a black egg in the duck house! I have 5 runner girls and they have all been laying blue eggs all spring and summer. Only one is still laying, but then we had this random black fairy egg today.
Any clues as to why? (We don’t have cayugas or anything like them)

It looks like a fairy egg that got a lot of blue pigment, making it look black.

Thanks for the reply - that does make sense. Was just a bit surprised when I found it! They need to sort out their colour palette

I always say they need to refill the ink cartridge.
