Hello BYC,

I have five Black-Laced Wyandottes that are approximately 25 weeks old. I noticed the other day that one of my "hens" comb is different than the others...instead of a single comb it has more of a pea comb... what does that mean? I looked at 'its' feathers and they looked rounded, no signs of sickles feathers... They all look alike except for the comb.

I don't have pictures, but I may be able to get one if needed. Thank you!

Pictures would certainly be helpful, if available. :)

Gender doesn't make a difference in comb type, other than overall size. Wyandottes are supposed to sport a rose comb. However, many hatchery-quality Dottes with single combs, which is incorrect for the breed, often spring up.

Agree with @Alexandra33 They're actually supposed to have rose combs, like this

But sometimes single combs slip in, like this one... That's because hatcheries had occasionally thrown in some single combed mix to keep their wyandottes egg production up.

They certainly shouldn't have pea comb, like this:

It turns out Three out of five have pea comb and the other two have single comb. When weather warms up I'll get some picture. What would the mean?

If they are really pea combs and not rose combs it would mean that they are not pure Wyandottes.

I will get some pictures (I just got a new camera yesterday yay!) because their combs don't look like that third picture more like the top and a couple like the Barred Rock.
